Hi! I think of myself as a down-to-earth type of guy who takes interests/ in anything that offers exciting challenges. I like to 'do things myself' whether it be fixing a dirt bike, or managing finances. I have the passion to know how everything works. I am very stubborn when it comes to solving problems and I have a lot of patience. I find that it usually pays off in the end when you are rewarded with the gratification of success.
In 2002, I graduated from University of Manitoba with a B.Sc. in Computer Engineering followed by a M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering in 2004. I am very grateful for the education I received, and I thank all the instructors, professors, associates and friends at UofM for making it such an uplifting experience. In particular, I would like to thank Donald Trim for the superb and well performed lectures, and Greg Bridges for providing excellent mentorship during my master's studies.
I'm a computer engineer by profession, and I do a ton of software development and I like it. I believe programming is not for everyone though, it takes a certain skill set. My most frustrating experiences with programming are typically when trying to integrate buggy third party API's. This is one reason why I am interested in open source software as it reduces the unknowns and empowers the programmers.
Currently I play on the indoor Winnipeg Men's Volleyball League (http://wmvl.com) in the middle position. In the winter, I like to go snow boarding to Asessippi (http://asessippi.com) or one of the resorts around Calgary. I also like cross country skiing to Birds Hill Provincial Park (http://www.gov.mb.ca/conservation/parks/popular_parks/birds_hill/index.html) during the winter. I'm also taking ballroom dancing with my girlfriend.
I occasionally play the piano/keyboard as I have formal lessons in playing the organ. Some of the more notable songs that I know how to play are: Light My Fire and Riders on the Storm by the Doors (learned them by listening to the actual songs as the offical scores are not available). Ray Manzarek from the Doors rules! I even got his autograph when his band was in Winnipeg in 2007.
Some of the sites I read are http://lxer.com for all news related to open source and Linux. I also read http://CrackBerry.com as I was one of the original members who started the site back in early 2007. I am a regular subscriber to the Scientific American journal since 1999 and I just love the articles that they write. Informative, new, and balanced.
There you go! That's a little about me.
